Magic Hour

We recently had a company called Magic Hour provide a free photo shoot for our family. They do this work pro bono for people with cancer, and we are so grateful. The photographer who worked with us, Melissa of Icarian Photography, was wonderful. She made us feel instantly at ease. I have been in the mind of legacy lately, and what could be left for my daughter and husband, and so it was such a relief and gift to have this offered.

Here are a few shots:

I like to read. A lot. On days when fatigue wears me down, I rest here. Sometimes I close my eyes and the same soft breeze that brushes the Golden Gate wafts through those curtains. I remember the outside world, and I remember the long wide ocean that moves not far from me.

Our messy garden. The cherry tomatoes have gone bonkers. The colors and bees and flowers cheer me up. Sometimes the best living is not organized. In disarray you might find your heart.

And here, with my daughter, is mine.

Love out.

  1. Beautiful pictures!! The garden pic. makes me smile and the pic of you and your daughter is so precious!
I am wishing you strength and clarity in choosing your treatment options! Immunotherapy is supposed to work well with TN.

  2. What a lovely idea Jojo. The new blog banner image from the photo shoot is wonderful. I have been struggling to immerse myself in books lately – have you taken particular pleasure in anything you have read lately?

Cyber hugs, a virtual coffee, and my very best wishes as you contend with the horror show that is TNBC.

  3. Carefree and Cat,
Thank you so much for the support and kind words. We are hoping for immunotherapy but are still waiting for scans and next steps.

Cat, I love anything by Joshua Ferris or Alice Hoffman. I also read poetry and recommend Thomas Centolella’s works, Li-Young Lee, Dorianbe Laux, and Mark Doty as well. I’ve got Wallace Stegner and Michael Chabon books ready to go next.

Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.

  4. What gorgeous photos. The one of you and your daughter holding hands is especially lovely.

I do a LOT of reading these days, both in recovery from the surgeries and now between chemo rounds. I bring home piles of books from the library.

    1. Hi Secret Agent! I would love to hear about what you’re reading. Recommendations welcome!
I stopped by the bookstore yesterday (a dangerous financial venture) and bought the Woodward book on Trump. Can’t wait to read it!
Would love to hear good book recs from you, or any/all readers. Thank you!

      1. Ooh, I have that one on order from the library. Of course, there are lots of people in the queue ahead of me, so it will take a while.

Right now I’ve gotten caught up in reading a couple of books about the fundamentalist LDS church, including a rather gut-wrenching book by Flora Jessop called “Church of Lies.” and I am reading “Hype : a doctor’s guide to medical myths, exaggerated claims and bad advice–how to tell what’s real and what’s not.” Nina Shapiro. A lot of it, I already know, but it’s a good reminder that not everything that is recommended is really a good idea.

      2. The book about the LDS church sounds intriguing. I remember reading Under the Banner of Heaven by Jon Krakauer, and really finding it interesting, so I will look up _Church of Lies_ from the library. ( I HEART libraries.) I’m currently reading Fear by Bob Woodward and it’s riveting. Not so much for the writing, but for the information.
